"Max 1 Year"

Posted by Rob (Velveetaville, United States) on 19 March 2009 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio.

The other day I was looking at our household calendar to see when my yearly Dental visit was and noticed something on the calendar that I hadn't seen before.

Among all of the squares with Doctors appointments, Birthdays, Dinner engagements etc., my wife had written in the corner of one square something that made me do a double take. In the square with the number "19" there was three words that simply read; "Max 1 Year". You could have knocked me over with a feather at that moment. It's not that I didn't know the exact date, trust me I did, or that it was coming up, that's for sure, but it was that fact it was written on our calendar and I had never even noticed it.

It has been one year already, wow. I still miss him so very much but lately it's not just the sad memory of the day he passed but rather the memories of things we did together all those years and some of the funny things he just did on his own, the goof.

One story that I like to tell, and I wasn't even home to see it, was when our Aunt Cathy and friend Susan came to stay at our house when we went away for a few days. Cathy and Susan were settled in for the evening with one dog by each one of them getting hugs and rubs when as if by cue, they would both get up and switch places. I really have know idea why but my guess was that they both felt they needed to share the love... it makes me smile because I can picture Max and Mille doing something just like that. The way my Aunt told the story painted such a vivid picture of that moment, how wonderful to have that memory. I too have more and more moments like that where I think of something about Max that makes me laugh or smile.

The fact is, I smile a lot now when I think of Max and I guess that's what time does for you. The sadness has lifted some and the memories of the great things that he brought to me, all he meant really, become more clear with each passing day.

I still miss you Pal and always know that will never fade away, no matter how many times I see that square on our calendar go by.

Love you Max,

Rob
