Empty Bed, Broken Heart

Dear Mille,

It's been 2 long weeks already sense you my Princess Mille have passed. Your ashes are back and placed in their place of honor in our house. But I still look for you in your special place when i get up every morning... it is now just a empty bed. I miss you my girl.

I think of you in your favorite spot on the back porch. Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter, you preferred to be there where so you could feel like you were outside but still resting those old bones in your comfy bed. I remember Mommy always getting up first to let you and Buddy out for your morning sniff and pee. Then your brother would stay out most of the time and investigate the smells of a new day but you, well you would end up coming back in and lying in your bed. Almost very morning I would come down stairs and there you would be laying in your bed taking a morning nap. There was always a feeling of peace and effortless love at the moment i laid eyes on you, a warm feeling would rush over me every time. It was how I would start my day, every day.

Now, every morning I come down stairs, and that bed empty and feeling of peace is all but gone. Don't get me wrong, your little brother Buddy, he is the love of my life too, he has always been special boy even if you didn't think so at first. You will be happy to know he has taken on the task of lifting our spirits and is doing it quite well.

But you our Mille, you were the first, the number one dog to enter this house almost 15 years ago, the one who started it all. The one who showed Mommy and I that we were needed and to how to be a little more self-sacrificing. You were who made us realize we were put here to save as many pups like you as we can. So, we promise you, we will do so until we are no longer physically able to. Because our you we found out that you can get so much love, with very little effort. You taught us by loving and caring for rescued pups, with very little sacrifice of time and effort, you were rewarded with a love like no other. What a wonderful gift you gave us.

Thank you Mille, thank you for coming to us and showing us the way life should be. Soon, another life will be saved in your honor, and if you are ok with it, maybe, just maybe, that empty bed will have another perfect princess laying out there. So when i come down stairs mornings, i will again get that feeling of peace and effortless love to start my day.

Missing you Princess,

Love Daddy

Of the 4 million dogs taken to shelters every year, 1 million are given up because their owners say they’re simply too old, says veterinarian Nicholas Dodman.

"Every year, between six and eight million dogs and cats enter U.S. shelters; some three to four million of these animals are euthanized because there are not enough homes for them."

Please be a responsible pet owner and have your pet spayed or neutered.
